Kuma Dojo Association Karate-Do International
Welcome to Kuma Dojo Association Karate-Do International {KDA}
"Kuma" is the nickname Sosai Oyama gave to John Farrell Sensei many, many years ago, it means Bear. Kancho Farrell is a big man of 310 lbs and well over six feet tall...
KDA is an association of Karateka of different styles/disciplines, though Kancho Farrell, and the board of directors are 100% Kyokushin.
If you are a Dojo owner or a student who is un-aligned (un-happy with your currant association) and seeking a home without having to loose your identity, then KDA is your Association !!!
We welcome ALL Martial Artists into our family to help teach the next generation or learn from the past and present generations!Kancho John Farrell is one of the very few true O-Sensei's still living and teaching in an open and sharing manner.KDA is removed from all the political issues that face Martial Artists. KDA is open to Everyone in the Martial Arts who wishes to align themselves with our group . When you join KDA, we offer opportunities to really learn. KDA offers its members: summer camp, winter camp, and seminars in several disciplines of Martial Arts, as well kyu, dan testing’s and Instructor and Dojo certifications.
We are led by Kancho John Farrell Judan O-Sensei, who has been involved within the Martial Arts for over 60 years. He holds Dan’s in Kyokushin, Judo, Aikido, Jujitsu, Isshin-Ryu, Shito Ryu, Koseido, meaning "The Way of Individual Character". This style is one of the oldest taught styles in the USA. This is what makes Kancho Farrell such a well-rounded teacher.Lifetime Membership is: $50 per Dojo (covers head Instructors membership), $25 per Instructor [Yudansha], $5 per Student [Mudansha], Kyu Certs $5.00, Dan Certs, $100.00, Branch Chiefs Certification’s (reserved for Kyokushin Yudansha only) $150.00 We always offer knowledge!
Where did KDA come from: After the passing of Sosai Oyama, and the issues with the IKO, Kancho Farrell reserved his actions and watched the firestorm of groups and organizations vying for the control of Kyokushin. Many of the groups contacted him asking him to either organize USA under their banner for them or to be a director of their group. He politely passed for many years. Years of talking and interacting with several IKO’s and many Martial Arts groups, Kancho Farrell and Sensei Mark had a long conversation about the value of forming their own group. Realizing that it would be a very positive move for the students of Kancho as well others within the Karate world, they formed what came to be known as Kuma Dojo Association Karate-Do International. “Kuma” being the nickname Sosai Oyama personally bestowed on Kancho John many years ago.
The group has many top upper rank instructors that are students of Kancho as well his vast network within the Martial Arts world. This was why KDA made the decision to be an open group rather than only Kyokushin. They formed the style Kyokushin-Ha which brought back some of the older Kata's of Kyokushinkai dropped by Sosai and added Kubudo. With a network that touched so many different styles and disciplines KDA has a broad diverse background.KDA looks to unite the independent Dojo’s that are looking for the synergy in a group rather than the glam...KDA offers low cost enrollment, long health linage of the Martial Arts, and experience that can help you and your students without costing you your life’s blood... We look forward discussing membership and the value of your Dojo joining KDA.
